DR CLAIRE McCARTHY

MB BCh BAO BMedSc MICGP DCH DRCOG MMedSc

Dr McCarthy is originally from Skibbereen in West Cork and graduated from medicine in University College Cork in 2004. After graduation she worked in Emergency Medicine in Australia and Ireland before returning to Cork in 2008 to pursue a career in General Practice. Dr McCarthy has worked as a GP in Kinsale, Skibbereen, Cork City and more recently Bandon, where she worked for the past number of years.

 

She has a special interest in Women's Health including all forms of family planning and contraception management. She is qualified in the insertion of Long Acting Reversible Contraceptives (LARCs) such as the Implanon bar, Mirena coil and copper coil. She is a member of the Irish College of General Practitioners, and holds postgraduate qualifications in Child Health, Obstetrics and Gynaecology and Diabetes management. 

 

Dr. McCarthy also has a special interest in sports medicine and the treatment of sporting injuries. She has a Masters Degree in Sports and Exercise Medicine from University College Cork.

Dr McCarthy is married with one son and lives in Cork city. She has a keen interest in swimming and running and tries to get in the sea whenever she gets the chance.

DR PADRAIG McGILLICUDDY

MB MRCSI MRCGP MFSEM

MMedSci(Sports and Exercise Medicine)

 

Dr McGillicuddy graduated in 1997 from University College Cork and initially trained in General Surgery, attaining Membership in Surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons in 2000. He then moved to Australia and worked in a number of specialties before returning to Ireland in 2003 .He obtained his UK Membership in General Practice in 2004.

He practised in Kinsale, Co. Cork as a GP Partner until the end of 2015, when he moved his practice to Carrigaline and has now joined the team at Carrigaline Medical Practice. As well as General Practice, Dr. McGillicuddy specialises in Minor Surgery and Cryo Surgery and is trained in the insertion of the Implanon long-acting contraceptive device.

Dr. McGillicuddy’s main area of special interest lies in Sports & Exercise Medicine. He holds a Masters Degree in Sports & Exercise Medicine from University College Cork, as well as Membership of the Royal College of Sports & Exercise Medicine. Along with his General Practice work and areas of special interest, he will be providing dedicated Sports Medicine Clinics at Carrigaline Medical Practice, available by appointment.

Dr. McGillicuddy is married with 3 children and lives in Kinsale, where he is also involved locally as medical officer to Kinsale GAA and the RNLI. He is a firm believer in the contribution of a healthy lifestyle and good mental health to physical well being and in the time honoured adage that ‘prevention is better than cure’.

JENNIFER MURPHY RGN

PRACTICE NURSE

Jennifer graduated from UCC in 2006 with BSc Honours Degree in General Nursing.  Since then she has worked in a number of areas including Cardiology, Orthopaedics, Outpatient Clinics and most recently worked in the Emergency Department for five years.

Jennifer is available for blood tests, vaccinations, ECGs, wound care, ear irrigation and cervical smears. 

BARBARA DRAKE

RECEPTION

Barbara joined Carrigaline Medical Practice in 2015.  She has completed a Level 5 Medical Terminology/Socrates course in the Cork School of Commerce and has many years experience working as an Administrator in an estate agents.  

Barbara is available to deal with all your appointment issues, organising repeat prescriptions and dealing with any queries you may have.

 

CATHERINE DUNNE

RECEPTION

Catherine has worked for many years in Customer Service and also worked as a receptionist in a GP practice in Cork City.  She joined Carrigaline Medical Practice in 2017.

Catherine is available to deal with all your appointment issues, organising repeat prescriptions and dealing with any queries you may have.

HELEN O'NEILL

RECEPTION

Helen joined the practice in 2018. She has many years experience in administration and reception. She worked as a medical receptionist overseas for a number of years before returning to Ireland.

Helen is available to deal with all your appointment issues, organising repeat prescriptions and dealing with any queries you may have.
